A good writer needs to cultivate empathy and be able to write from different points of view. So, write something from the point of view of someone who is completely unlike you. Make them a different gender, a different ethnicity, a different social class. You can even make them live in a different historical era and in a different country or give them religious or political beliefs you don’t hold. The important thing is to get inside the mind of someone who is very different than you are, see the world as they see it, and write something from their point of view that is so convincing it seems real.
